“Nature'sCool” is a School Holiday Programme for 6 yr olds * and up based on an extensive rural property out the back of Huanui College, in Glenbervie. (see map below).
*We may be able to accept children who are a little younger than 6 if their older (responsible) sibling is also taking part as a paying participant. This decision is at the discretion of Safe Outdoors NZ Ltd - please complete the appropriate section of the sign up form.
The focus is on providing creative and adventurous (but low risk) outdoor activities which promote environmental awareness and personal growth. We also believe strongly in the benefits of child-led free play (also known as Inquiry based education), so keep our daily plan flexible. Activities may include:
Cost: $50 pp (discounts are available for multiple days / children)
Wk 1 (July): Tues 7th Wed 8th Thurs 9th
Wk 2 (July): Tues 14th Wed 15th Thurs 16th
The programme officially runs from 9am - 3.15pm. However supervised play is available from 8.30am and again until 4pm at Huanui College.
Late Pick Up
The Programme finishes at 3.15pm but we will provide (free) supervision until 3.30pm. After 3.30pm the following fees will apply.
Note: If late pick up is required, please complete the appropriate 'Late Pick Up' section of the Sign Up Form and pre-pay the fee.

8.30am: Supervision available at Huanui College (farm animals)
9am: Meet & greet + safety chat #1 (5 mins)
9.30am: Adventure down the back to the 'Bush base'.
10am: Safety chat #2 (15 mins)
10.30: Activities / adventures
2.30: Pack up Bush Base
3pm: Leave for School / pick up
3.15 - 3.30pm: Programme ends (Supervised play & parent pick up)
3.30 - 4.30pm: Supervised play (@ $13 / half hour pp).
What to bring (including food)
Involvement in this programme requires the participants to be comfortable out and about in (most) weather. It also requires them to carry their bag everywhere we go. On days with rain forecast, participants should expect to get a bit wet, so please pack some warm / waterproof clothing if required (as below):
* Rain jacket.
* Warm jersey (fleece etc)·
* T shirt & Thermal layer if it’s cold
* Shorts / pants
* Solid footwear / Gumboots (No Jandals thanks).
* Sun hat / sunscreen
* Togs & towel
* Water bottle (full)
* Full change of warm clothes.
* Food – HEAPS of healthy / filling kai with minimal plastic packaging.
* Solid backpack to put it all in.
* Medication / asthma inhaler / Epi Pen etc (please complete relevant sections of * Sign Up Form).
We operate under a general maximum ratio (Instructors: Participants) of 2 : 16 (1:8), but try to keep it to 2:14. We also reserve the right to extend this ratio to 3: 21 (1:7). In all swimming situations, a ratio of 1:6 (Instructors: students in the water) will apply.
Nature'sCool runs on a minimum number of 8 participants. In the unlikely event that this number is not reached within 24 hours of the booked day, then parents will be contacted to negotiate alternative options / solutions which suit them. The first alternative priority is that their booking will be changed to day on Limestone Rangers (if operating that day). Secondary option is to swap to different date.
Rough Weather alternative
The nature of this Holiday Programme means that we are subject to weather conditions. With a purpose built, all weather (& heatable) shelter, and quality participant clothing we should be good to go in most weather. In the event that it is too wet for the programme to operate safely / enjoyably outside then we will need to postpone the day.
Accidents / Emergencies
Safe Outdoors NZ is committed to providing a safe service. In the unlikely event that an accident or emergency occurs, Safe Outdoors Staff will follow the Safety Action Plan (SAP) or Emergency Action Plan (EAP). Further information is available upon request.
Due to the nature of the programme, it's activities and location(s), it is vital for participant safety that everyone follows the rules and listens to instructions. Below is a list of rules we will give the participants (just the most important ones - not exhaustive), please take time to talk about these with your child(ren) before taking part.
* When an Instructor is talking to the group, please stop talking, look and listen.
* Most activities involve some risk, if people are not listening or following instructions, then we may remove that person or stop the activity.
* Take care of each other and yourself.
* Be positive & smile!!
In the unlikely event that a child is unable to maintain their own safety, or the safety of those around them, then parents will be called to discuss the situation. Safe Outdoors NZ reserves the right to remove such participants from the programme if deemed necessary, in which case the parent is responsible for collecting their child immediately.

As we limit the number of paying participants to 21 per day, full payment needs to be made in order to confirm your child’s place on the programme. Reservation requests can be made by emailing email@example.com with details of when payment will be made. If a reservation is approved, it will be held open for approx 24 hours unless alternative arrangements have been made.In the unlikely event that your payment is received after the requested day is full, then this payment can either be refunded, or allocated to an alternative day (providing there is space).
ANZ account: You will find the Safe Outdoors NZ Ltd account number at the bottom of the sign up form. Please include the code: "NC" followed by your last name.
We can offer a full refund of payment within One week of the booked programme. Sorry but after this time refunds will be assessed on a case by case basis and may be denied. This is to give us enough time to fill the position and / or book (or un-book) instructors etc. In special circumstances (e.g: last minute sickness) we may be able to transfer your booking to another day as long as there is space.
